Learn 3 Green Methods to keep a Microwave Oven Clean!

Cleaning Microwave OvenIn the rush of our daily lives, there is nothing better than convenience! Microwaves make our lives so much easier, as we used it to reheat leftovers, to prepare quick snack, bacon, popcorn, to heat milk, water… And the list goes on.

Spills and splatters are inevitable, and sometimes your judgment of time fails and your food simply blows up. Not to mention that some foods are already prone to bursts. Yes, microwaves can get really messy and nasty!

Sometimes we don’t give so much attention on cleaning our microwave oven and we do it just when the mess is pretty bad. We recommend cleaning it up at least once a week, and since we started talking about convenience, guess what? Cleaning a microwave oven is very easy and quick as well.

Today, we Zesty Maids are going to share some easy ways you can green clean your microwave:

1. Steam Method

½  cup water

½ cup of white vinegar

Mix water and vinegar (and soap) in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it on high for a few minutes or until boiling (2 to 3 minutes depending on microwave). Leave it inside of the microwave for another few minutes (about 5-10 minutes). Remove the bowl carefully because the water can still be very hot. You will notice that it will be steamy inside, so now using a microfiber cloth or a soft paper towel, wipe the interior of your microwave, windows/door, and keypad. In addition, don’t forget to wash the microwave’s plate and cover.

2. Wipe Clean Method

½  cup water

½ cup of white vinegar

*optional: a few drops of natural dish soap

Mix all the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave it for a few minutes, just to warm it up a little. Remove the bowl from the microwave, deep a microfiber cloth in the mixture and wipe the interior of the microwave removing residue. Finalize wiping with a dry microfiber cloth.

3. Remove odor from the microwaveLemon to remove microwave's odor and give a fresh scent

1 lemon

1 cup water

Add water in a microwave-safe bowl, add the lemon (cut in a half or in slices). Microwave it until boil (about 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the microwave). Let it sit for a few minutes with the door closed. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and it will leave a fresh aroma.

That is it! Your microwave is clean and ready again!
