How to Properly Clean Your Ceiling Fan

How to Properly Clean Your Ceiling Fan

If you clean your furniture often and you noticed that some insistent dust on top of them, it is a great sign that your ceiling fan needs to be cleaned.

The ceiling fan is a great dust accumulator, and you need to be very careful about cleaning it because you don’t want all the dust spread around your room, especially on your bed.

Since Texas gets really hot and we usually keep ceiling fans running most of the time, we recommend cleaning the blades at least once a week.

Here are two simple ways to clean the blades of your fan.

Cleaning ceiling fan with pillowcase

You are going to need:

  • A ladder
  • Clean pillowcase

Instructions:

  1. First of all, switch off the fan. Next, climb on a safe ladder until where you can comfortably reach the blades.
  2. Open the pillow case and put it around one blade such as you were going to “dress” the blade with the pillowcase.
  3. Slip the top of the pillowcase around one of the blades, pulling it off with some pressure, wiping the dust inside of the pillowcase.
  4. Repeat the process with all the other blades.
  5. When you are done, toss the dust inside of the pillowcase in the trash or shake it well outside of the house.
  6. Wash the pillowcase in the laundry and it will be ready to be used again.

Cleaning ceiling fan with a wet microfiber cloth

You are going to need:

  • A ladder
  • A microfiber cloth
  • A small bowl with water
  • A plastic bag (any grocery plastic bag)

Instructions:

  1. First, switch off the fan. Then, climb on the ladder as you can safely reach the blades.
  2. Moisten the microfiber cloth with water (the damp cloth will make the dust to gather, thus preventing it from spreading over the room).
  3. Slip it on the blade from the center to the edge of the blade, wiping the dust inside the plastic bag.
  4. Wash off the microfiber cloth and repeat the process with the other blades.
  5. Finalize tossing the bag with the dust in the trash and washing off the microfiber cloth.

Those are two simple methods which you can easily clean your ceiling fan without spreading dust around the room.
